Hi - The disc drive on my Powerbook G4 is no longer working - it just spits the discs back out immediately. I plan on getting that fixed, but for now, I'm looking for a cheaper way to get. I just got a printer, and the installation is not available by download, so I need a disk drive. At least, I guess. Hi - The disc drive on my Powerbook G4 is no longer working - it just spits the discs back out immediately. I plan on getting that fixed, but for now, I'm looking for a cheaper way to get. I just got a printer, and the installation is not available by download, so I need a disk drive. At least, I guess that's what I need! I'm fairly clueless, here. Your patience is appreciated! Is an external CD-ROM drive a good idea? Sporting such features as Sleek, compact USB SuperDrive, everything you need in. To your MacBook Pro with Retina display, MacBook Air, iMac or Mac mini. Would that work for what I'm wanting it to? What do I need to look for? Are those external drives so expensive that I should go ahead and get my laptop drive fixed? My kids would also like to load game disks, etc. Not that there are that many for Macs. Thanks for any info/help you can offer. Best Answer: You should be able to just plug and go with that printer. Your Mac should know that the printer has been plugged in with out any software to install. Check your system perff's and see if it shows up. If not you can use and external CD/DVD-Rom. The price is based on a couple of things, does it play and burn CD's and or DVD's and does it use USB or Firewire to connect. You can find one on ebay for a cheap price and you mite try to find a used one on Amazon.com. If you don't have any luck let me know I have a old Que drive that burns and plays CD's and it uses USB. I can let you have it for a steal. And I took my old eMac apart and took the disk drive out and it burns and play CD's and DVD's. I'm pretty sure it will work in your Powerbook, just call a Mac store and ask and maybe we can work out a deal on it to. Both work fine. • Tell us some more • Upload in Progress • Upload failed.
